Skate Park does a fabulous job of teaching physics to kids in the context of a deeply satisfying hands-on building project. The fun kicks off with a graphic novella in which a group of characters entertainingly explore the physics behind skateboarding tricks. That these forces will be put into play once the build is finished helps ignite the reader's enthusiasm for learning. That anticipatory excitement only grows stronger as the project, in which a complex three-dimensional marble machine is gradually assembled out of laser-cut wooden parts, progresses. The build is designed to be completed over the course of five one-hour sittings and can be easily accomplished using household white glue. The end result is an impressive, multi-geared machine that puts marbles through the kinds of stunts and obstacles found in a skate park, including a half-pipe, stair descent, rail slide, even a jump! Skate Park includes over 80 wooden parts and can be connected with the Dragon Coaster kit (sold separately) for expanded fun and learning.
