This guided activity book has the same great format as The I (Heart) Art activity book (above), except that here the focus is on historical and contemporary design rather than fine art. Each of the thirty or so activities in this book stems from accompanying photographs of exceptional design works, the result of a collaboration with Cooper Hewitt, Smithsonian Design Museum. The activities are highly varied and imaginative. Given a photograph of a beautiful vase, we draw an arrangement of flowers into the picture and write a poem inspired by the vase. Three exotic-looking radios from the 1950s inspire us to draw what we imagine radios will look like 25 years from now. Given a photograph of a beautiful Tiffany lamp, we design our own lampshade for it. There are many other equally stimulating activities and stunning photos, the breadth and variety of which spark young people to new ways of appreciating, imagining, and creating the world in which we live.
