What makes this free app such a standout is the level of variety in its highly entertaining activities and the fact that they're as fun as they are educational. In each round, kids play several brief mini-games, with new challenges added each time through. The pacing is unusually well-suited to the pre-school and kindergarten audience, keeping them deeply and happily engaged. While playing along with their favorite Care Bears, children follow instructions, learn shapes, colors, letters, counting, and use plenty of fine motor skills. Young learners play songs with Harmony Bear by tapping changing light patterns, put together shape puzzles with Grumpy Bear, help Funshine Bear catch falling objects by moving him to the right place at the right time, and identify objects that start with a given letter or have a certain color. The atmosphere is one of encouragement throughout, and at the end of each round kids spin the Surprise Wheel and get a Care Bears sticker. A truly lovely learning app.
