Tiggly shapes are colorful, three-dimensional geometric shapes that interact with learning apps. The four brightly colored shapes - circle, star, square, and triangle, are engaging and stimulating in and of themselves. But when used in conjunction with the free apps, the magic really begins to fly. The Tiggly Safari app lets kids construct a series of onscreen animals by placing the correct shapes onto matching onscreen outlines. The graphics and functionality are top-notch, with a wide variety of entertaining farm, jungle, and aquatic animals cleverly formed from basic shapes. Sight and hearing are nicely brought into play through rich onscreen visuals, repetition of shape names each time a match is made, and ongoing animal sounds that match the as yet unseen animal being constructed. Another free app, Tiggly Draw, lets kids create their own art from basic shapes, producing musical sounds associated with each shape. A variety of details (eyes, nose, wings, tail, hat, etc.) can then be added by dragging choices from a menu, unleashing comical sound effects. There are other excellent apps as well, each combining the developmental benefits that come from holding and manipulating objects with the educational magic made possible through digital learning.
