This product, which includes two distinct games using the same electronic mat, is a particularly good fit for younger kids. Both games (Bowling and Whack a Mole) are physical activities that even very young children can do and which encourage development of motor skills. Regardless of which game they are playing, little ones find the mat's flashing lights, music, and sound effects to be exciting and stimulating. Another aspect that's a strong fit for young kids is that neither game is really about competing, but rather about being fun and physical. The bowling game uses 6 lightweight plastic pins on the mat and a bowling ball that is rolled to knock them down. During bowling, the scoring mechanism is mostly for effect, racking up points on an ongoing basis. During whack a mole, a flashing light moves randomly among the mat's six circled spaces, and each time a child touches a lighted space, a sound effect occurs and the score ticks up a point, with cheers sounding out as various levels are reached.
