Crossways is a great strategy game, easy enough to learn so that young players can jump right in and play, but rich enough with offensive and defensive possibilities that more intricate-minded players have plenty to sink their teeth into. The object is simply to be the first player to complete a path of markers from one side of the board to the opposite side. In addition to the board and markers, there's a deck of standard playing cards, of which each player holds 5 at all times, replenishing as needed. Moves are made on each turn by discarding a combination of cards from your hand that allows you to either add or remove markers to or from the board. For example, a pair allows you to place two markers anywhere, while a run allows you to remove markers from anywhere. A single card allows you to place a marker, but only on a square that matches the card. And while surveying the board will give you some idea of the best thing to do on your turn, there's no such thing as a surefire move when opponents potentially hold the power to block your way or remove your markers. That uncertainty, and the sweet balance of skill and luck, is what makes Crossways so fun and exciting. For 2 to 4 players or teams.
