This is a wonderful art activity that's tremendous fun as well as an ingenious tool for developing drawing and intellectual skills in children. There are several Double Draw books available, each with its own theme (Airplanes, Princesses, Pirates, Funny Faces, and more). Each book is spiral bound on both sides with pairs of pages that meet in the middle like swinging doors. Each pair of pages is arranged so that one side shows one half of a symmetric object or drawing. The artist then fills in the other page, free-hand, by drawing the object's other half. This is a tremendous activity, stimulating your child's development of symmetry, scale, and artistic ability through drawing the mirror image of what they see on one half the page. By drawing outward from the middle and emulating lines, curves, and angles so close at hand, they are able to create detailed work that would be very difficult to achieve if copying an entire image free-hand. The book is set up so that one pair of pages shows the left half of a given object and is immediately followed by another pair of pages showing the right, allowing the artist the experience of drawing both sides. There are several blank pairs of pages for creating your own mirror image drawings as well.
