If variety is the spice of life, then variability, one of Fluxx's prime characteristics, is its meat and potatoes. At the outset, the basic rules are incredibly simple - draw a card, play a card. But the play of even a single card can change everything - the goal of the game, the value of cards in players' hands, even the rules. Each card, playfully designed and illustrated, tells you what action to take in order to play it. Once the game is in full swing, players often have multiple cards in their hands and on the table, as well as cards face-up in the middle displaying rules and goals effecting everyone. Evaluating which card to play from your hand requires tracking these various elements and their consequences. A player instantly wins the game if he or she meets the current goal - typically having a specific pair of cards face up on the table.
