With science kits, the assembly is often half the fun. This kit offers a particularly satisfying experience in that regard, in part because of the stripped down nature of the Hover Racer. It has the look and feel of something designed for optimal functionality - not a bit of excess to be found anywhere. Which is to say, it's pretty cool-looking. Once you switch on the motor, air from the high-powered propeller is split in two directions by the combination arch/duct directly in front of it, causing the plastic skirt beneath the base to inflate and the craft to begin moving forward across the floor. You quickly gain a visceral sense of why a minimalist design is ideal for a vehicle intended to skim along on a cushion of air. The motor is powered by 4 AAA batteries (not included), but everything else you need for this science project is in the box.
