Nuts about Mutts is fast-moving fun for the entire family. Children immediately gravitate to the playful, dog-themed illustrations, and gameplay is such that young kids can sink their teeth into it right off the bat. Players are dealt seven cards apiece and take turns playing a card onto the home pile. The goal is to be the first player to rid your hand of cards. In order to play a card, it must match either the color, number, or dog character of the home pile's top card, or else be a wild card. If unable to play one, the player must add a card to his or her hand. Wild cards (Fleas, Fire Hydrant, Pedigree, Dog House . . .) dispense little doses of mayhem that include players having to miss a turn, draw unwanted cards, swap hands, or be able to play several cards at once. An advanced version of play (ages 8+, but still easy to learn) includes opportunities to thwart opponents by playing certain types of matches and runs out of turn and includes an option for keeping score across hands for a longer game.
