HoPLAY QueenStrike is a unique, highly enjoyable game that combines elements of traditional board game play with digital and hologram technology. The result is a remarkably well-integrated play experience that combines face-to-face social interaction with exciting digital elements. An iPad projects animation from the free HoPLAY QueenStrike app down into a Holographic Display Box, where it is visible to all players. These audio-visual elements interact seamlessly with the physical components, transporting players to an otherworldly land where they assume the identity of any of four little heroes of the Music Kingdom and traverse the board seeking to recover musical notes banished by the not-so-nice Queen of Hearts. Each note is guarded by a Queen's Guard, and duels (a charming use of rock-paper-scissors) determine whether the little hero recovers the note or heads off to jail. There are many fine details to HoPLAY QueenStrike. The delightfully colorful and diverse physical components are exceedingly well done, as are the animations, back story, even the instructions. Nothing was given short shrift, and the interactivity of the physical and digital elements elevates the game to the level of genuine adventure, one that's perfectly suited to family play.
