The beauty of Katachi is that it gets you thinking in new and different ways. In a sense, you even begin to see differently. You know you're in for something special as soon as you open the box. The tiles that form the foundation of the game have a unique allure. Brightly colored and imprinted with various geometric shapes, they have a distinctive look and feel that just makes you want to play. Line them up randomly in six rows of six, and you've got your playing field. The goal is to be the first player to move a specified number of tiles onto your corner tile without letting any pile get more than two tiles higher than an adjacent tile. Two special dice displaying color, shape, and size map to the characteristics of the tiles. Rolling the dice determines both which tile you can choose to move on your turn and which tiles you can move it across. After just a few moves, strategies begin to reveal themselves. Not thinking ahead can create obstacles for you later on. The ability to spot various paths while thinking strategically goes a long way towards winning. Play moves along quickly and easily, but as with any great game, skill levels in Katachi can run very deep. For 2 to 4 players.
