For children, building emotional vocabulary and awareness is essential to the development of strong social skills. Language Builder: Emotion Cards is a highly effective way to help kids identify and discuss feelings in a safe, playful context. Each of the 80 photograph cards in the set shows a person conveying one of 5 basic emotions - Happy, Sad, Surprised, Angry, Disgusted. The images feature actors from a wide range of ages and ethnicities, a welcome inclusiveness. Half the photos show an actor's upper body and face displaying a strong emotion, while the remaining 40 cards depict people in realistic everyday contexts. The back of each card labels the emotion or image and lists suggested activities with which to further explore it. The actors display each emotion so skillfully that kids not only are able to identify it, but identify WITH it. That empathetic response is a key factor in deepening kids' understanding of emotions in themselves and others.
