A lot of care and thought clearly went into devising these playful, educational, teacher-created, child-tested cards. There's an abundance of information on each of the 56 cards in the deck, organized in a way that makes it fun and easy to absorb and retain. Each of the 50 state cards (plus one for the District of Columbia) shows, on one side, the name of the state, its capital, its major cities, nicknames, the state bird, state flower, major industries, and the types of agriculture sustained there. Beneath that appears three fun, remarkable facts about that state, and in the upper right hand corner, a snippet of the U. S. map reveals the borders with, and names of, surrounding states. The order in which that state joined the union (and the date on which it happened) is also provided. The flipside of each card displays an unlabeled map of the United States, providing the opportunity to name the highlighted state on sight and recite whatever knowledge you have before referring to the facts listed on the other side. There are also 5 special cards included - 3 providing fascinating information on the five regions of the United States, one that lists the original 13 colonies, and another that contains instructions for two fun educational games for group play - Name that Capital and United States Rummy. The cards are a handy 3-1/8 inches by 5 inches in size.
