Just as with the Basic Monster Truck (see review above), the fundamental connective component in this construction set consists of VELCRO Brand Dots on the sides of EVA foam blocks and ABS plastic parts. Once again, this approach proves very well-suited to the building wants and needs of children as young as age three. The easy-to-follow instructions provide a simple, illustrated guide for assembly. T-Rex has a higher proportion of plastic parts (used predominantly for the head, limbs, and tail) than did Monster Truck, a fact that gives him the finished, contoured look one would want for a creature but makes him less adaptable to alternate configurations. Which is fine, because kids do love their dinosaurs. The re-positionable arms and head and hinged open-and-close jaw make it possible for T-Rex to effect a variety of attitudes and help inspire many hours of imaginative play.
